General Roll Leaf
This is the process where an actual layer of metal (appliqué) is applied to a book cover. Applying appliqué is done with a combination embossing/cutting die that allows the metal to be adhered (with 350°F heat) and die cut at the same time. The excess appliqué is stripped away leaving the embossed image. In some instances, the finished appliqué is antiqued to give it an older, more three dimensional look.
